Of Masters and Their Slaves

"It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master." ―Ayn Rand

Abu Muhammad al-Jolani's Statements on the Christians of Syria

Ambiguous Directives Do Not Address the Kidnapping of Christians

Hezbollah Watch
Hezbollah Watch
By Hezbollah Watch

Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, leader of al-Qaeda-affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra (The Nusra Front, AQ-JAN), has allegedly issued the following directives to his fighters:
  1. Never break any cross of infringe on any Christian holy symbol.
  2. Never abuse Christians or harm any of them unless someone attacks you and declares war, and so will be treated as an enemy.
  3. Never harm any of the nuns or people of the churches, nor infringe any Christian property whatever it could be, even the smallest of them.

Alleged directives of AQ-JAN's leader al-Jolani on the treatment of Christians
Alleged directives of AQ-JAN's leader al-Jolani on the treatment of Christians

Unfortunately, missing from these directives on the treatment of Christians is any reference to kidnapping Christians. This renders the orders of al-Jolani meaningless and empty, as the kidnapping of non-combatants such as the nuns of Maaloula is in fact i) an infringement upon Christian holy symbols; ii) an abuse of Christians; and iii) harmful to Christians. This, by extension, is harmful and abusive to the Syrian people and their cause.

The abduction of the Maaloula nuns might be seen as a bargaining card by their kidnappers, but this is a very shortsighted move, as the damage inflicted upon the Syrian Revolution is strategic. Taking the nuns as hostages is not only immoral, but also deeply offensive to the Christian 1/3 of the inhabitants of this planet.

Thus, by keeping the nuns in captivity, Jabhat al-Nusra is in fact playing into Bashar al-Assad's hand and validating his claim that the Islamists in Syria are merely armed terrorists.

For the sake of Syria and the Syrian Revolution, Jabhat al-Nusra must get its act together and disassociate itself from al-Qaeda, renounce terrorism, and strictly abide by the modern international rules of war and the Geneva Convention. This means combatants do not kidnap nuns and keep them in captivity!

Free the nuns.

Iraq's PM Nouri al-Maliki Accuses Jews of Conspiracy and Terrorism

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki Makes Anti-Semitic Remarks

Hezbollah Watch
Hezbollah Watch
By Hezbollah Watch

During an interview with Hadith al-Watan, Nouri al-Maliki accused his country's Sunnis of running a bombing campaign in their own midst to present themselves to the United Nations as victims of sectarian strife and request its protection. Maliki proceeded to compare this alleged Sunni scheme to an allegedly similar tactic employed by Zionists in the 1950's to force the migration of Iraqi Jews to Israel.

Iraqi PM Nouri al-Maliki Accuses the Jews of Conspiracy
and Terrorism. Skip until 1m:45s.

Al-Maliki: "This [conspiracy] is similar to the case of the Jews in Iraq in the [19]50's when they wanted to displace the Jews to Palestine, they started blasting [setting off explosives] in the Jewish areas, in their cafes, in their gatherings, they kill one here, one there, and they created a news media wave: 'O Jews of Iraq, you are targeted', so they [Iraqi Jews] escaped from Iraq and went and became a part of the formation of the State of Israel on the Palestinian land…"

As a leader of Iraq, a country indebted to the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-confessional United States for its liberation, it's not appropriate of Maliki to make such disgraceful comments. The Shiites are more indebted to America than any other group in Iraq, and Maliki is a Shiite. Really, Maliki is kind of spitting on the hand that helped him come to power by making such statements, for Jews are an integral part of the American fabric. Jewish tax payers and Jewish blood contributed to the liberation of Iraq.

Maliki used a shotgun approach and referred to Jews in general where he should not have mentioned them in the first place. He didn't even say "Zionists" (euphemism for Jews) as is customary among more politically-correct leaders. He just used the word "Jews" outright. And Jews, in his scenario are i) conspirators; and ii) terrorists! Much more can be said too...

Maliki wanted to register some very, very cheap points by indirectly involving the Jewish community in his bitter sectarian struggle with his country's Sunnis. Self-evidently, his intention is to demonize his Sunni adversaries by comparing them to the already-demonized Jews (as is the unfortunate case in the Arab/Islamic culture).

Is Maliki subconsciously hinting that he wants the Sunnis to leave Southern Iraq like the Jews were forced to leave their country in the early 1950's?

There are sectarian murder campaigns ongoing in Iraq. Maliki seems to be looking for anything that can help him and the Axis of Resistance win the war against the Sunnis in the area.

Maliki's remarks are a reflection of his anti-Semitism, lack of good judgment, and lack of ability to justify his failures as a Prime Minister (who is also looking forward to a questionable third term in office). What's easier for would be dictators than deflecting blame by comparing enemies to imaginary infamous Jewish conspiracies! (Some people have alleged that there is truth to Israeli (as in nationality, not religion or ethnicity) involvement in these tragic events in the 1950's, but these are also staunchly disputed by others. 1950–51 Baghdad bombings.)

The Black vs. the White Shia Turban

Hezbollah Watch
Hezbollah Watch
By Hezbollah Watch

Many observers of the contemporary Shia community wonder about the differences between the mullahs who wear black turbans and those who use white turbans. This article addresses some of these important differences.

Until the Imamat (universal guardianship and leadership) of Ali ibn Moussa ar-Ridha (also Rida or Reda), the Eighth Infallible Imam, there was no distinction in the outfits of Sayyeds and non-Sayyeds. “Sayyed” is the honorific title used to address the descendants of Prophet Muhammad through his daughter Lady Fatimah and her husband, Ali ibn Abi Taleb, the First Infallible Imam and Fourth Caliph.

Allegedly, the Eighth Imam ordered Sayyeds to distinguish themselves from non-Sayyeds by wearing black turbans, to express sadness over the murder of the Third Imam, al-Husayn ibn Ali.

It is also alleged that until time of the Eighth Imam, Sayyeds had light emanating from their faces (similar to the two luminous men who met with Abdul Karim Nasrallah and foretold him about the birth, gender and names of his progeny, including Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary-general and co-founder of the Lebanon-based international terrorist organization Hezbollah), but during the eighth Imamat, God allegedly took away this visual distinction to protect the Sayyeds from persecution and murder at the hands of the Abbasid and other rulers of the Islamic world.

It must be noted that since the time of the Seventh Imam, Moussa ibn Jaafar al-Kazhim, the Shiites had little or no direct access to the Imams as they were imprisoned by the Abbasid Caliphs.

In our current times, the usage of turbans fell out of favor throughout most of the Islamic world. This, of course, was to the greatest advantage to the mullahs as their turbans distinguished their clerical class.

Shiite mullahs who are not Sayyeds are known and addressed as Sheikhs; they wear the less appealing white turbans.

Needless to mention, there is a financial motive as well behind the discrimination between Sayyeds and non-Sayyeds; the former make claim to the Khums religious tax. The Khums is 20% of the yearly savings of Shiites, both Sayyed and non-Sayyed. Half of this amount is the Infallible Imam's share. The other half is distributed to the needy Sayyeds.

Nowadays, the Khums is collected by mullahs or even devout non-mullahs Shiites who have an Ijaza (authorization) from a Grand Ayatollah (source of religious emulation).

The white-turbaned Shia mullahs get a share of the Infallible Imam's portion of the Khums, as long as they are on good terms with their authorizing Grand Ayatollahs.

The Infallible Imam's Khums share can be used by the Grand Ayatollahs and their authorized delegates to help the poor in general, or for various projects, such as funding religious seminaries and hospitals, and in our bad times, finance Khomeinist terrorism attacks throughout the world.

Is Iranian President Hassan Rouhani Really a Moderate?

Iran Expert Sohrab Ahmari Revisits the History of Sheikh Rouhani

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani
Sohrab Ahmari is an assistant books editor with the Wall Street Journal. During an interview with Ayesha Tanzeem on the Voice of America's On the Line, Ahmari shared some insights about the nuclear intents of the Iranian regime and the history of Iranian President Rouhani:

Sohrab Ahmari: "I think the [Iranian] ruling establishment on the whole realizes that the nuclear program, and the closer they get to the bomb, is the way to insure their survival in a society that otherwise they'll have a lot of trouble controlling."

Ahmari continued: "So and you can look at Rouhani's history―I heard the word "moderate" thrown around―and I think it's really, really bad term and it's really not giving the Iranian people a lot of credit if you say that this guy is a 'moderate' when―and I'm gonna just go to the domestic front for two seconds―this is a guy who, when the 1999 student uprising happened, he said, 'We need to crush the students,' I quote, 'mercilessly and monumentally,' and in fact they did. And I had a piece in the Wall Street Journal on Monday describing what happened in the aftermath of Mr. Rouhani's speech. So I don't think people change. I don't think politicians fundamentally―in their world view―change."

Future Movement: Hezbollah is a Threat to Lebanon's Stability

Hezbollah Watch

By Hezbollah Watch

The Future Movement parliamentary bloc met under the leadership of former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora. The attendees of the meeting released several statements, among them:
The continuous involvement of Hezbollah in the battles in Syria, and the refusal of Hezbollah to submit those accused of assassinating former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, and Hezbollah's formation of armed militias under the title of Resistance Brigades, keep national life in Lebanon subject to turbulence, shakiness, and danger, and threaten Lebanon's national stability.
Fuad Siniora
Fouad Siniora
The Lebanese state must consider the Syrian ambassador in Lebanon a persona non grata. The state must also indict the Syrian officials whose involvement in the bombings of the Salam and Taqwa mosques has been confirmed. The state must also submit an urgent complaint to the Arab League to examine these repeated crimes, and also notify the United Nations Security Council about these two crimes and the investigations that have been conducted to this date.
The Future parliamentary bloc also condemned the statements by Bashar al-Assad, in which he considered Jabal Mohsen, Tripoli (Lebanon), as the equivalent of a Syrian area, and they saw in that an escalation and interference in the internal affairs of Lebanon.

From the Shiites of Pakistan to Syria Without Love

The Loyalty of the Khomeinist Shiites of Pakistan's for Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is Deadly
Hezbollah Watch
Hezbollah Watch
By Hezbollah Watch

Numerous media outlets have reported on and discussed the presence of Hezbollah, Iranian and Iraqi Shiite terrorists in Syria. Yet, on the ground the most ferocious pro-Assad regime militants are Shiites originating from Pakistan and even India.

But, the fact that many Pakistani Shiites are willing to travel more than 4,000 kilometers from their country to Syria just to participate in the fighting and slaughtering of the mainly-Sunni Syrian rebels invalidates the claim of those of who insist that the Pakistani Shiites are victims of genocide. One cannot have a cake and eat it too: Pakistan's Khomeinist Shiites cannot allege to be victims while at the same time going out of their way to oppress and kill Syrians in a far-away land.

It must be noted that the dangerous driving force behind the reported fanaticism of Pakistan's Khomeinist Shiites is shameful deep bitterness towards the Sunnis. This is the result of hundreds of years of incitement by misguided mullahs who portray the people of Syria as the Umayyad murderers of Imam Husayn.

The Pakistani Shiites warring against the Syrians are not only aggressors, but also supporters of a world-recognized genocidal regime that does not hesitate to use air strikes and chemical weapons against unarmed civilians and helpless children. In truth, the alleged Shiite genocide in Pakistan gets dwarfed when compared with the reality of the ongoing Sunni genocide in Syria.

Strategically, the involvement of the Iranian regime of Shiites from every corner of the world in the fight against the free Syrians is short-sighted. While the Khamenei regime of Iran can now claim that it has successfully built up world-wide sectarian Shiite solidarity in support of the Assad regime, Pakistan's Sunnis are now fully-aware of the type of hypocritical Islamic unity their country's Khomeinist Shiites have on their mind for them. Indeed, the Sunnis of Pakistan now know the deadly fate that awaits them at the hands of Pakistan’s Khomeinist Shiites should the balance of power there shift in favor of the latter.

Needless to mention, the decision of the Khamenei regime to mobilize and ship militant Khomeinists from every close and remote corner of the Shiite world to Syria is a reflection of that regime's dire and weak position, for such a desperate move fuels sectarianism and inflicts long term, if not permanent, damage to the reputation and designs of Khamenei and his mullahs.

The Sunnis of Pakistan should do much more to support the free Syrians because they are fighting and dying to stop the Khomeinist common enemy—one that stops at nothing to push forward its toxic sectarian project in the Middle East and beyond.

The Tuwayrij Run

Hezbollah Watch
Hezbollah Watch
By Hezbollah Watch

The Tuwayrij Run (Arabic: ركضة طويريج), a Nineteenth Century religious invention, occurs on yearly basis on the Day of Ashoura, whereby hundreds of thousands of Shiite men run from Tuwayrij in Iraq towards nearby Karbala as a mobilization force intended to metaphorically save al-Imam al-Husayn and His family from the army of Yazid ibn Mu‘awiya ibn Abi Sufyan.

Tuwayrij is located about 22 kilometers from Karbala, but the Run starts at bridge located five Kilometers from the center of the holy city.

The runners leave towards the Shrine of al-Imam al-Husayn in Karbala after performing the Noon prayers, as the Imam was murdered at noon time.

Upon the arrival of the participants, the Run organizers burn several tents, symbolizing the tragic end of the Battle of Karbala and the too tardy arrival of the Shiite mobilization force.

The Tuwayrij Run was invented by the Mirza Saleh Qazwini, a mullah, who led the militant runners while he was on horseback.

Althoug the Tuwayrij Run is a religious invention, it was nevertheless justified by the testimony of Grand Ayatollahs who proclaimed witnessing al-Imam al-Mahdi among the runners.

The Run became very popular among the Shiites residing outside of Iraq. It is now practiced in many countries with Shiite communities, such as Iran and Bahrain.

The Tuwayrij Run in Tehran, Iran (silent video; skip to 8:20)

The apparent message of the Tuwayrij Run is regret for letting down al-Imam al-Husayn and an expression of the desire to sacrifice one's life for His sake. Needless to mention that the Run is also a display of military power by the Shiite mullahs. Indeed, the Run was invented when the Shiite Persian Empire was at odds with the Sunni Ottoman Empire and Holy Karbala was occupied by the latter.

Such a display of militancy was not practiced by the Infallible Imams who succeeded al-Imam al-Husayn. Indeed, the Tuwayrij Run is an example of how religious communities change over time and pick up new traditions and rituals that may be a deviation from the original, but serve a worldly purpose.

The Supplication of the Fourth Imam for the People of the Frontiers

The following is the supplication used by the Khomeinist Shiites against their American, Israeli and Sunni enemies:

57and hold them back from massing together against them through dissension!
58O God, empty their hearts of security
59and their bodies of strength, distract their hearts from thinking of stratagems,
60make their limbs too feeble for clashing with men,
61make them too cowardly for contending with champions,
62send against them a troop of Thy angels
63with some of Thy severity as Thou didst on the Day of Badr,
64so that through it Thou mayest cut off their roots, harvest their thorns,
65and disperse their number!
66O God, mix their waters with pestilence and their foods with maladies,
67hurl down their cities, harass them with peltings, hinder them through drought,
68place their supplies in the most ill-omened part of Thy earth and the farthest from them,
69bar them from its fortresses, and strike them with constant hunger and painful illness!
70O God, if a warrior from the people of Thy creed wars against them
71or a struggler from the followers of Thy prescriptions struggles against them so that Thy religion may be the highest,
72Thy party the strongest, and Thy share the fullest, cast ease to him,
73arrange his affair, attend to him by granting success,
74select for him his companions, strengthen his back,
75lavish upon him livelihood, give him enjoyment of joyous vitality,
76cool for him the heat of yearning, give him sanctuary from the gloom of loneliness,
77make him forget the remembrance of wife and child, pass along to him an excellent intention, attend to him with well-being,
78make safety his companion, release him from cowardice,
79inspire him with boldness, provide him with strength, support him with help,
80teach him right conduct and the norms of the Sunna, point him straight in judgement,
81remove from him hypocrisy, purify him from seeking fame,
82and make his thinking and remembrance, his departing and his staying, be in Thee and for Thee!
83When he stands in ranks before Thy enemy and his enemy, make them few in his eye,
84diminish their importance in his heart,
85give him a turn to prevail over them, not them a turn to prevail over him!
86But if Thou sealest him with felicity and decreest for him martyrdom,
87then let it be after he has exterminated Thy enemies by slaying,
88captivity has afflicted them, وَبَعْدَ أنْ يَجْهَدَ بِهِمُ الأسْرُ 88
89the borders of the Muslims are secure,
90and Thy enemy has turned his back in flight!
91O God, and if a Muslim should
92take the place of a warrior or a soldier in his home,
93attend to those left behind in his absence,
94help him with a portion of his property,
95assist him with equipment, hone him for the struggle,
96send along with him a supplication for his purpose,
97or guard his honour in his absence,
98reward him with the like of his reward
99measure for measure, like for like, and recompense him for his act
100with an immediate compensation through which he will hasten to the profit of what he has sent forth
101and the joy of what he has given, till the present moment takes him
102to the bounty Thou hast granted to him
103and the generosity Thou hast prepared for him!
104O God, and if the affair of Islam should worry a Muslim
105and the alliance of the idolaters' against Islam should grieve him,
106so that he has the intention to go to war and is about to enter the struggle,
107but frailty keeps him seated, neediness keeps him waiting,
109or an obstruction prevents him from his wish,
110write his name among the worshipers,
111make incumbent for him the reward of the strugglers,
112and place him among the ranks of the martyrs and the righteous!
113O God, bless Muhammad, Thy slave and Thy messenger,
114and the Household of Muhammad, with a blessing high above all other blessings,
115towering beyond all other salutations,
116a blessing whose end is never reached
117and whose number is never cut off,
118like the most perfect of Thy blessings that has passed
119to any one of Thy friends!
120Thou art All-kind, Praiseworthy,
121the Originator who takes back again,
122Accomplisher of what Thou desirest.
